VASILIS GEORGIADIS

Vasilis Georgiadis was born in 1921 and died in 2000. His film studies lasted
only one year because that was the life span of the “Academy
of Film Studies” managed by Orpheus Karavias. This interval however
allowed him to harvest his love for cinema and editing. Even
since his early first films Georgiadis’ talent was clearly visible.
The two Oscar nominations and the nomination for a Golden Globe
were not accidental. Especially for a self taught director who
kept his independence from the big studios and the production
companies of the times.
One of his biggest complaints is that the Greek Film Center
never supported him after the change of regime. Conversely
he managed
to direct for the Greek television some of its most important
series: “Christ Recrucified”, “Pantheoi”, and “Yungermann”.
At the 40th Thessalonica Film festival in 1999, he was
honored for
the totality of his work followed by a very moving ceremony.
